</div><br></div><div>Week 18's prompt was English paper-pieced (EPP) hexagons with running stitch.</div><div><br></div><div>EPP involves temporarily attaching fabric to shaped pieces of paper to add strength to the shapes to enable the pieces to be stitched together. The papers are removed once the pieces are stitched together. </div><div><br></div><div>Hexagons are a popular shape for this type of patchwork, but other shapes include diamonds, squares, triangles etc. </div><div><br></div><div>Once I'd finished sewing the hexagons together, I stitched them onto a piece of vintage linen using running stitch, both horizontally and vertically, imitating quilting. I'm not really one for reading poetry as, like my Dad, I think it should be read out loud, so it's been a long time since I heard any. <div><br></div><div>During the last couple of months of 2020 and the start of this, my Dad was reading a section of Longfellow's long poem 'Hiawatha' per week. When this finished and we went back to a separate poem a week, I decided to add each week's poem to my current journal.</div><div><br></div><div>These are the pages I've created so far:</div><div><br></div><div>Oh to be in England by Robert Browning </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div><br></div><div>I really enjoyed this one, Suffolk puffs are one of my favourite embellishments for stitching. I used a piece of linen for the backing then added scraps from a vintage tablemat, a purple cotton and a purple and cream check. I added one piece of antique lace on top of the check and another piece on the piece of tablemat, where I also added rows of running stitch. On top of the running stitch I added 3 Suffolk puffs made from mid-19th century purple silk. I also put a piece of purple lace to balance the piece. To decorate, I stitched on some pearl beads and six purple beads.</div><div><br></div><div>TTFN </div><div>Louise</div>Louise@ElsieMayandBerthahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13721274531833540258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-362061642100431831.post-13914280348775627572021-03-09T21:48:00.000+00:002021-03-09T21:48:03.806+00:00#100dayproject2021 - days 28 to 36 - A textile scroll<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAVHjH_MMraa1v9Eg1BzTOimy2HYQAeCm0oyOVOeyJGQVkFBNXV-_GDKqwm9duvtvGGasp3rQn70bbE4xuox4YXCt66Sg0FxQLOkSNvzXTes2wNJq_OyK2s5dV0A4ctJRxqFURPkuHA6o/s2048/20210308_091612%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAVHjH_MMraa1v9Eg1BzTOimy2HYQAeCm0oyOVOeyJGQVkFBNXV-_GDKqwm9duvtvGGasp3rQn70bbE4xuox4YXCt66Sg0FxQLOkSNvzXTes2wNJq_OyK2s5dV0A4ctJRxqFURPkuHA6o/s320/20210308_091612%255B1%255D.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 18px;">A snippet scroll is a piece of textile art that is a</span><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-size: 18px;"><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></span><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-size: 18px;"><span style="font-family: arial;">compilation of bits and pieces of vintage embellishments attached to a narrow piece of fabric. </div>I'm a trifle behind with my blog posts as this is last week's tag. The theme was buttons and Anne meant for this one to be a simple tag to make. <div>I used a piece of vintage quilt that I added a strip of red cotton lace to one side and edged it in blanket stitch in mustard-coloured vintage thread. I added 5 buttons, 2 linen buttons and 3 mother of pearl. Rather than just fasten them on, I made bit of a feature out of it.</div><div><br></div><div>The next one involves hexies</div><div>TTFN</div><div>Louise</div><div><br><div><br></div></div>Louise@ElsieMayandBerthahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13721274531833540258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-362061642100431831.post-71236555723464045072021-02-10T21:43:00.003+00:002021-02-10T21:43:24.640+00:00#100dayproject2021 day 2 - day 8<p> <span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;">I'm a bit behind on my post as my bug really reduced what I was capable of. The only thing I've managed for about a week was these little projects for the 100 day project. Everything else ground to a halt. Yesterday, I managed to get to my workroom for the first time in a week, though that last flight of stairs was a killer. That's the problem with having chronic fatigue, it makes what would have probably been a minor inconvenience a 100 times worse. My bug symptoms have nearly all gone, I'm now left with the fatigue. This is when I need to be careful. I'm raring to go in my head, but my body thinks otherwise. So I need to do a bit, but not too much, which can be a balancing act!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;">Anyway, let's get back to the stitchy stuff.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0eFssMfETIjwiSsLl5MtVzchN0xSu4CyUXCAc0idK-gQd0FzEB8rHM1LO39E10z965QGbdyNKUhDZWIzIg54Hzz0dI-ksq07DKOaDeymiL88wy9e7j0q5wwJs9RfqkVA7sfI7YxXkuAw/s2048/EMandB_100day_2-8_1%255B1%255D.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0eFssMfETIjwiSsLl5MtVzchN0xSu4CyUXCAc0idK-gQd0FzEB8rHM1LO39E10z965QGbdyNKUhDZWIzIg54Hzz0dI-ksq07DKOaDeymiL88wy9e7j0q5wwJs9RfqkVA7sfI7YxXkuAw/s320/EMandB_100day_2-8_1%255B1%255D.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;">Day 2 - a little red and white brooch. </div>I finished this on Tuesday but I've managed to catch a bug (not <b>the</b> bug) so I only took photos today. </div><div>The theme was crosses or kisses. I've used two pieces of broderie anglais lace, a little ruffle, three Suffolk puff 'kisses' and two pieces of salvaged edging in a cross stitched with chain-stitches. I handed a few cross-stitches at the top along with a piece of braid.</div><div>The fabric is stitched onto a @carabrandon tag.</div><div><br></div><div>TTFN</div><div>Louise</div>Louise@ElsieMayandBerthahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13721274531833540258noreply@blogger.com0
