Sun sewing and a bit of a stink

The weather has turned out all summery all of sudden, which normally I'd be delighted with (as long as I stay out of it so as not to get a migraine or get too hot. Hot is just as bad as cold when you have chronic fatigue) but last weekend our drains blocked.

After a week of plunging and poking, calling out a nice man with a huge power wash thingy twice (our drain access had been buried before we moved into our house so we had to unbury it before the drains could be completely cleared) the stinky smell is now diminishing. Hopefully, I'll be able to retrieve my sun lounger from the depths of the loft and do some sewing outdoors this week. The weather people have said this weather could last a couple of weeks!

On the sewing front this week, I've managed to complete one item, a tea bag carrier. I made this so I could write a 'how to' for a magazine article.

I've been commissioned to make a dozen needle cases for a friend who is running a workshop in August. I'll share pictures of these once my design has been approved (I hope to finish the prototype  today).

I've only managed to do a couple of web stitches on my collage and I've not touched the rose pillow! Hopefully more sewing will be done this week as the tennis has finished (well done Andy!).

Workroom time this week has mainly been spent on tidying up the said workroom. I've been moving things around a bit so everything is having to find a new home. But, when you move one thing to a new place, that leaves something else needing a new home. It's taking a bit of time.

Apologies for the short post this week. I promise I'll do better next week.

Pop over to Handmade Monday where other people will have been producing more than me!

  1. Tennis has been a bit of a distraction hasn't it? I love the idea of a tea bag carrier. A really neat idea - especially if you don't drink regular tea. Good luck with the re-organisation.

  3. I like the tea bag carrier but not sure what it's for - unless for carrying tea bags on holiday?? The spider webs on the collage are interesting - very clever!

    1. My mum uses hers when she goes away. Though you can get more different teas at cafes etc now, it's easy to pop in your bag just in case.

  4. I like your collage too, a good way to try out lots of different stitches etc. I find when you reorganise everything, you can't find things any more! I'm sure you will be far more organised than me though :)

  7. I like the idea of a tea-bag carrier - I'd never have thought of it but as I freelance around different offices I can think it would be useful (you never know what brews you might get!)

The collage is looking great, I'd love to do one but never seem to give myself time to start.

  9. Pongy drains aren't pleasant at the best of times - but when it's warm. Phew !!!! Glad to see you got them sorted.

Love the little tea bag holder. A really good idea for people who like speciality tea which are hard to find. Can't wait to see the finished collage. I love what you've done so far xx

  10. Hi Louie, I hope your week has settled down a bit. I love the tea bag carrier and the collage is amazing. It reminds me of those antique samplers I see on the Antique Roadshow. Take care :)

  11. I like how your collage is coming along. The stitching looks incredibly detailed. Good to hear your drains have been sorted. They are not the nicest things when they go wrong.
