A lavender pillow

I made this pillow for a birthday present. I can't remember where I acquired the fabric with the lady on it, I just have a small piece, but it is to do with the four seasons. This one is for spring.  I added a couple of patches and some prairie points from vintage fabric and then decorated the pillow with french knots and buttonhole lace. Once the pillow had been stuffed with stuffing and dried lavender, I added buttonhole lace around the edge of the pillow.

The recipient was delighted with it.

Reinventing the page 1 - design sheet 1

I've started a new course with Karen Ruane called 'Reinventing the page'. We're learning about design and different ways to reinterpret and display them.

I've created a collection of images from Pinterest that I'm going to use as my inspiration for this course.

I chose these two to use elements from for my first design sheet.

I used the shape and the design on the sleeves from the first image and the the round flower in the centre of the dress from the second for my draft design sheet.

I then  used this draft sheet to start on my master design sheet. I changed the colour of the round motifs to blue from the pink on the draft and used peach for the star-shaped image.

There's still a bit more work to do on this before the sheet is finished.

Pussy cats

I've found a new cat pattern that I wanted to have a go at so I created a couple of samples, with this first one being made with older children/adults in made. I used vintage fabric, buttons for the eyes and nose and I also added lavender to the stuffing.

This second cat is more child-friendly, with felt for the eyes and nose. The fabric is a Rose and Hubble one.

Both of these have found new homes already, but I'm going to be making more soon.

A rose pillow

This pillow was made for a commission. I used a mixture of fabrics, with two forming the front and one for the back. The front was then embellished with an image of a lily (the pillow was for someone called Lily), a patch of vintage embroidery, my own embroidery, lace, pink gingham, prairie pints and a piece of lace.

I also created three buttons, which were each made from two fabrics and decorated with embroidery. These buttons have been tied onto the pillow so that they sink into it.

Once the pillow had been backed and stuffed with stuffing and dried rose petals, I then edged it in running stitch.

Birthday cards

I've had a couple of birthday cards to make in the past couple of weeks.

This one was for our youngest next door neighbour who has a big thing for Minnie Mouse!

These next cards were all for birthday swaps.
