Cards, a shawl and a couple of other things.

At this time of the year I spend quite a lot of my time sewing or knitting in front of the tv watching the tennis. Unfortunately, this week the weather at Queens Club in London hasn't always been that good, so I have found time to pop up to my workroom to do some making there. Much to the delight of my husband, who can get a tad annoyed if I bring to much making stuff downstairs!

It was my sister's birthday on thursday (though we didn't actually see her till yesterday) so I had a couple of cards to make for her, one from us and the other from my Mum and Dad. Plus I made her her presents from us too.

The one I made for my Mum has a 1920s/art deco feel.

Our one had a Japanese theme.

The first present I made for her was a multi-coloured shawl. To make it I used some wool that I brought from the Creative Stitches and Hobby Craft fair I went to last year (unfortunately there hasn't been one near here this year) and knitted it using huge 15mm needles. It was the first thing I'd made with such large needles, which wasn't easy as the wool was so fine. The pattern was a basic garter stitch, starting from one stitch and increasing one stitch at either end on each row. Using the big needles does mean that the shawl grew really quickly.

The second thing I made was a summer top using a pattern that was in issue 27 of Mollie Makes. Unfortunately, I forgot to take any pictures of the completed top (it didn't help that I didn't finish it till half-twelve and we were leaving at 1.35!), so the pictures are of the model wearing the top in Mollie Makes and a picture I took whilst I was making it.

 An early summer sale.
Next weekend, from 7pm on Friday 21st June to 8pm on Tuesday 25th June I'll be having a sale, with everything included in it having 20% off. The items in the sale will be in a dedicated album on my Facebook page. There are some items in the album already, but I'll be adding more, including some vintage supplies (fabric etc) during the week but the sale doesn't start till 7pm on Friday. The rules of the sale are:

  • - it doesn't start till 7pm on the 21st.
  • - the  first person to comment on each item will have bought the item (unless there's are more than one).
  • - payments will be through PayPal.

As usual, I'm taking part in Handmade Monday, pop over there to see what everyone's been up to this week.

  3. I think I would have bought that wool too as I love multi coloured wool and it has knitted up very prettily.

  4. Love the look of your wool. Looks really great, though wonder if it was hard to knit with.

  5. The wool looks lovely. I've heard about a shawl pattern like that before, although not on such big needles - it definitely looks worth a try! Hope your sale goes well x

  9. Hi Louise, the cards you created are really beautiful. I love the art deco one. What a great idea to make the shawl using big needles. I have a pair of those large needles and I now I know what I can make with them. Have a great week!

  12. I know what you mean about crafting in front of the tennis. I love it although if the weather is too good I do feel a bit guilty. Your cards are stunning. I couldn't make them watching TV although the knitting is something I could. Using the big needles gives the shawl a lovely lacy feel.
