Paper play

I spent a bit of time at my craft table yesterday.

This September calendar page is for my Mum, she has it on the wall in her bedroom (I had intended to have the full 2016 calendar made earlier in the year, but it turned into a 'getting it just done in time' kind of thing!).

I have another new penpal, so I've made another letter card. The purple pocket on the inside is for the letter, I've added a couple of journal cards as well. On the right, there's a little pocket that I've made a tag for. The tag is quite long and could double as a bookmark too. I've also decorated the envelope. All I need to do now is write the letter and it'll be ready to post.

I'll be back  again on Friday.

Really new wips* and a couple of nearly new wips

*wips - works in progress

These are the new wips. They're at the just cut the fabric and chosen the trim stage. These will be Christmas decorations. My first ones for 2016. There'll be more.

I've done some stitching on these two. The first one was started this week, it's going to be an art piece. The second, a redwork christmas tree, was started last year, so it's a really old wip.

That's my weekend sorted out anyway. I hope you have a fun weekend planned too.

I'll be back on Monday.

For a new penpal

I have a new penpal, Rosario,  who lives in California. We were put in touch via the Letter Writer's Alliance (LWA). If you're interested in letter writing, I'd have a look at their website (http://www.letterwriters.org/). There's a small one-off fee of $5 to join, but if you don't want to join there is information on the public side of their site.

Rosario was sent my address so she wrote first, this letter card (that's what I call them anyway) has my reply. I made it from a leaflet that popped through the door and covered it in scrapbook paper.

On the inside, there's a pocket made from an envelope that contains the letter on the left. The pocket on the right is made from a piece of wallpaper that's was folded in half and the sides sewn up on my sewing machine. I've just added a teabag, some stickers, a couple of journal cards and a decorated paperclip.

The butterfly theme came from the wallpaper pocket. Once I had decided on butterflies it was easy to make. It's just deciding on the theme that can take the time! That applies to anything that I make. I've spent a lot of time looking through fabrics or patterned papers etc waiting for that eureka moment!

I'll be back again on Saturday.

A 50th anniversary textile collage

This is the second item that I made for my Aunt and Uncle's 50th wedding anniversary (you can see the other item here). The image was printed onto vintage cotton fabric and then decorated with vintage lace and broderie anglais.

There's only a bit of embroidery on this , chain stitch around the image and french knots on the headdress and for the flowers. I've also attached some mother of pearl buttons, some worn from years of use and a few beads.

I've backed it with some more vintage cotton,  and sandwiched a piece of wadding in between. It can be hung up using the two brass rings.

See you again on Thursday.

'A place for precious things' - a little pouch for keepsakes

This pouch is made from vintage linen and has been decorated with stitch, vintage lace and vintage buttons. The lining is also vintage. In fact, the only thing that isn't vintage is the thread I've used!

I'll be back on Tuesday.
