A new book and a quandary.

It's just a short one today. The house has been unchristmased,  so I need to do some moving around of things and my workroom needs a really good tidy!.

This is one of the books I had for Christmas.  It's full of new stitches/designs to have a go at, and there is my quandary. In order to make good use of this book, I need tospend a lot of time creating samples. However,  if I do that I won't be making stuff to sell. It's not like my things are dashing off my Etsy shelves, so does it matter if I don't add more than a couple of new things?

On one hand I could add to my stitching knowledge  and on the other making stuff on the off chance it may sell. So what to do?  What would you do?

If I didn't have chronic fatigue this question would be moot as I'd have the energy to do both (and to do more to make myself known).

I'll be back on Friday.

  1. Cut a piece of fabric the size to make something you have in mind, try the stitch and if it looks OK make something from the fabric. If it doesn't look OK use that piece of fabric to practise the stitches on.

    1. Thanks for the advice. I'm doing a 52 week project that will involve me stitching a circle a week that I'll be able to use to practise some of the stitches in this book.

  2. Hi Louise,
I am currently unChristmasing. It is a big job as I am known to go a little bit overboard on the decorating.
Great Book! This time of year, I would take some time to play around and work on the new skills during this slower shopping time of the year. It will most likely pay off later, and you can have some winter fun.
I am currently working on a couple of big projects, since sales will probably slow way down for awhile.
No matter what you choose-- Enjoy
    All the Best,
    Gwen

    1. Thank you Gwen. I'll be doing some stitching practise in the next few weeks and just doing enough to keep my Etsy shop ticking over (also see my response to Julie above too and my next blog post will be on the 52 week project I'm doing).

  3. When I went to a Marna Lunt workshop she had her makes on display. She used old linen doilies to embroider her different stitches onto.it looked like a really good idea although i wonder whether to do something like that in a fabric book! This year I may experiment!
