The beautifully pink tweed brooch

I love working with tweed as it doesn't fray that easily so you can use it in smallish pieces like I have here. It's lovely to stitch through too, there's no resistance to the needle. I've used buttonhole lace and my favourite french knots to decorate the brooch, along with some pink seed beads and a button. I've used felt for the back and attached my label and brooch pin to that. I then attached it to the brooch using running stitch.

I was seriously tempted to keep this brooch for myself, but I was strong with myself and I've put it in my Etsy stall.

'Be still, listen' - a textile art brooch

Everything I've used for this brooch, apart from the brooch pin and my label is vintage. I've used fabric from chair backs, the edge of a tablecloth, lace and tatting, buttons and fabric scraps. I've used vintage mercerised crochet thread, thread for mending stockings and artificial silk thread.

I'm hoping that this will be the first piece in a series of work featuring sayings/quotes.

The works in progress (wips)

This one, above, is destined to become a pin pillow. Since you saw it last, the last two seams have been done. Next I'm going to add the three pieces of lace that are pinned on and finish the lettering. Once that's done I'll decide whether it needs anymore embellishment before it's backed.

I've not done much more to this little pouch other than finishing the lettering. The various bits of lace will be added, along with a bit of embroidery before being lined and sewn into shape and the bow being added. .

This brooch is new, so you've not seen it before, it has the words 'Be still, listen' embroidered on it. It's all done apart from the buttonhole lace that will join the front to its back.

I have a gift that I need to make, but these three items should be finished soon and I'll show them to you when they are.

The yellow heart with a bow brooch

The front of this heart-shaped is made from a vintage fabric with a smaller heart made from a spotty mustard cotton. The bow is made from a scrap of vintage cotton fabric and is attached with a vintage fish-eye button.
The back is made from yellow felt and has a bronze-coloured brooch pin.

The clock and bow brooch

The clock image on this brooch is made from one of Jessie Chorley's stamps and was printed onto this green, hand-dyed fabric by a friend.  The bow is also Jessie Chorley inspired (I do love her work) as she makes hers out of fabric scraps and stitches all over them too. The bow is attached with a vintage button and I've used french knots to attach the front of the brooch to the back with french knots (they are my favourite stitch after all).

Heart and flowers brooch

This little brooch is nearly all vintage as just the thread and the brooch back are new. There's a fabric heart buttonholed stitched onto  linen that has tiny running stitches all over it. The heart is decorated with little tatted flowers that I found in a charity shop and a button. The front and back sandwich is edged in blanket stitch.

This brooch is now available at the Seagrass Gallery in West Kirby. There a few of my brooches available in the Elsie May and Bertha Etsy store.

A green velvet brooch.

The body of this brooch, a Christmas gift for a family friend, was made from green and beige tweed fabric, with a green velvet heart appliqued to it. The velvet heart was then decorated with french knots and glass beads. I also added a little trail of beads from the bottom of the heart. I used a kilt pin-style brooch pin.
