Creating my own fabric
This is snippet cloth. It's made from a base fabric (preferably one with a loose weave like muslin or scrim, this is silk scrim) that has snippets of cloth or lace sewn onto it using fme (free motion embroidery). I've made the stitching quite dense, so the fabric has a bit of weight to it, but you can also make a light and floaty fabric with a finer base fabric, fine lace and less stitching.
I've included some holes in this piece, which will be edged in buttonhole lace that will hide the rough edges. This fabric will be used in a future project, where it will be cut into smaller pieces and have embroidery and beads added to it.
I'll be back on Saturday.
