Anniversary cards with stitches

There's a mixture of stitch on this golden wedding anniversary - the background silk was attached to paper on the sewing machine with gold thread. The art deco image of the dancing couple was printed directly onto fabric before being stitched, by machine, onto the silk background and then the button was stitched on afterwards. The gold heart is made from wallpaper and has had gold seed beads sewn onto it. The remaining elements were all glued onto the silk background.

This card also has an art deco dancing couple, but it is much more stylised. I've added a slew of french knots to highlight the sweep of the dress, the gentleman just has a line of back stitch around his collar and down the shirt front. I've also added a collection of gold french knots at each corner of the image.

I only make these stitched cards to commission as they can take a bit of time to do, please contact me via email at elsiemayandbertha@virginmedia.com if you're interested.

I'll be back on Friday.

Anniversary cards

It was mu Mum and Dad's 50th wedding anniversary yesterday and this is the card I made for them.

I used a velvet fabric to create the heart and decorated it with three gold silk suffolk puffs and a vintage button.

The 23rd July is also the wedding anniversary date of my sister and her husband, I made this card for them.

The heart has been hand drawn by me and is on scrapbook paper with a peacock die-cut from Paperchase.

 I'll be back on Tuesday.

Two birthday cards

The background for this card is an image of an art deco Chinese carpet. The image with the red-cheeked lady is of a bridge tally card that has been decorated with pieces of lace, beads, sequins and french knots.

The background on this second card is made from a piece of wallpaper. The image of the lady is, again, from a bridge tally card. I've added some art deco flowers to the wallpaper, which came from an image of 1930s fabric, with the addition of liquid pearl in the centre of each one. The lady is decorated with thread and beads.

The top card was a commission, but I made the bottom card for my sister's birthday.

I've created an album of photos of greeting cards I've made on the Elsie May and Bertha Facebook page so can see the variety of the cards I've made in the past. I take commission orders for greetings cards (birthday, wedding, Christmas etc) and prices range from £2.95 - £15.00, depending on size and composition. You can email me at elsiemayandbertha@virginmedia.com if you'd like more information.

I'll be back on Friday.

Birthday cards

The front of both of these birthday cards started out with a piece of wallpaper. For the first one I used various pens to highlight the bird. The rest of the decoration is made from flower sticker, flower gems and a tag made using a Jessie Chorley printed image. The inside of the card has flowers cut from the wallpaper I used for the second card.

For the second card I added some glitter to highlight the butterfly on the wallpaper and flowers cut from a roll of vintage wallpaper. The happy birthday sentiment is my own design. Inside the card there's another vintage wallpaper flower.

Both of these cards were for the same person and I'm happy to take orders for bespoke birthday cards if you'd like something similar, just email me at elsiemayandbertha@virginmedia.com (prices are between £3 and £7 pound depending on the size and design).
