A heart with an owl, a thread catcher and a needle case.

The heart, which was scented with lavender was a birthday present but the thread catcher and needle case were made as part of swap parcels.  However,  you can just drop me a line if you'd like something similar 💜

Birthday cards

Things have been busy on the bespoke birthday card front.

I've used images from the interest,  magazines, advertising,  card, patterned papers, stickers, crystals, pearlescent paint and glitter to create these cards.

Contact me at elsiemayandbertha@virginmedia.com if you'd like me to make a unique card for you.

1920's ladies pin pillow.

I've had the fabric printed with 1920s-style ladies for a while waiting for the right project to come along. This pin pillow was made for someone who liked the colours grey and yellow, although the ladies fabric has a bit of blue in it, it goes perfectly with the grey fabric printed with the word sew. The image og the lady with a fan was found on Pinterest and was attached to the band of grey fabric, itself edged in chain stitch, with pekinese stitch.

On the left side of the pillow , lace has been added and decorated with buttonhole stitch and french knots. The grey fabric has been used for the back as well. Once stuffed, the yellow silk fabric-covered button was tied onto the pillow.

Rainbow pillow.

I made this pillow as part of a swap that my partner had asked if what I made could have a rainbow theme. I bought both the rainbow ric rac and the buttons, but I had the flowery multi-coloured lace and the two fabrics I used already. I found the rainbow quote on pinterest. The two buttons were tied on after the pillow was stuffed with stuffing and dried lavender.

Hand-pieced mini swap.

This is the first mini quilt swap  I've done and fortunately,  for my sewing skills on the sewing machine,  it had to be done by hand! Again, as it was my first, I wanted to do a simple pattern, hence the triangles and squares. I used three different fabrics with a single layer of wadding between the front and back. I used running  around each of the squares for the quilting bit. The edges are bound with bias binding that comes with a little crochet edge.  To make up for the simple design I made puffs that I tied onto all of the corners of the squares in the centre.

Fortunately,  my partner loved the quilt!

Hearts and flowers brooch.

Another brooch made from a scrap from a vintage tablecloth. I've added some of my own embroidery to the scrap (the french knots ) and attached this to green linen along with a fabric heart,  a flower bead , vintage lace and a heart charm, .

It's now available to buy from my Elsie May and Bertha shop.
